With University starting oh so very soon I've started thinking a lot more about clothes (more than I usually do!). The most important outfit for the entire year is the outfit I wear on the very first day, first day outfits have always been a very big deal for me. For the past 3 years I've started a new year of College and that meant a special FDO (first day outfit), I recently found pictures of each of these outfits and I was amused at how I was dressed and how different my hair is every year. Not that I'm embarrassed at how I was dressed, quite the opposite.. it shows how my personality/style was at that time in my life and the sort of image I wanted to project.
That's the biggest factor in choosing a FDO for me, the image I want to send out to the world. I'll show you the pictures and tell you what I was trying to achieve with my image.
1st Year.
I was a wannabe Spice Boy.. it was the look which I spent the last year of school perfecting and working towards. Entire new wardrobe full of bright colors, polo shirts, very bling-y jewelry and that required a new look. I loved my hairstyle then, short on the sides with a faux mohawk with blonde highlights.
The image I wanted to convey was of confidence, an obvious penchant for style and just a newer, better me.
I wore a
Topman polo shirt,
Topman bootcut jeans and a
Topman wristband to match my polo shirt.
2nd Year.
I changed quite a bit style-wise over the past year, out was the clearly defined boyish look and in was the first forays into androgynous dressing. I become a lot more confident in myself and that was clearly shown through what I wore and my hairstyle.. it's not that clear in this picture but I had one side long with a fringe and one side shorter tucked behind my ear.
I wore a
Topman white t-shirt with my new
dVb Naomi flared jeans, this was the first outing of these jeans and I felt amazing in them. I think that day I wanted to show how much I had grown in confidence and started down the path of a more individual and unique style.
3rd Year.
I look completely different to the previous two outfits and it was because I felt like a completely different person. My style had really evolved and my androgynous image was fast becoming my signature look, one of the biggest transformations was my hairstyle! Here I am with the Victoria Beckham bob, which I was extremely proud of and really marked my change of image.
I went for a androgynous school-boy look, with the crisp white shirt, the jumper but with a fashion twist with the Armani watch and my circle sunglasses. I wanted to look like a fashion student and I think I achieved that!
I've been told when my friends I made that year first met me they thought I was very glamorous.. which is such a compliment!
So those were my FDO's over the past three years, I haven't decided what to wear to the first day of University yet.. it needs a lot of thought and planning. Of course I will be continuing the tradition of taking a picture of what I'm wearing on that day!
I want to share some tips with you for your FDO.. wear what YOU want to wear, wear something that you're COMFORTABLE in and make sure you wear something that makes you feel CONFIDENT.
