MASQUERADE

"Long ago when European royals grew bored with palace balls, they took a page from the peons and added some pageantry. Couture and canape are just another Saturday night.. until you add a mask."

Gossip Girl, The Handmaiden's Tale.

I went to my first ever masquerade party on Tuesday night and it simply was magical..

It was at my University's main campus in their SU, had to catch a train up there but it was totally worth it. I know a party at an SU doesn't sound that amazing, but when you add a mask things get interesting. You don't know who anybody is and more exiting.. they don't know who you are. As it was at another campus people didn't know me anyway, which I found really cool because if I made a fool of myself, no one would ever know it was me (I didn't make a fool of myself, not that I know of anyway).

I wore my trusty black military boots from Topman, black skinnies, the lace shirt I made last summer and the mask I found on eBay, it matched my outfit perfectly.. see-through sections and black lace. I was really happy with the way I looked that night, and the best thing about wearing a mask is.. I look good in every picture because my face is covered!

I danced all night, well until midnight.. the SU had to close at 12 because it was only a charity event and licensing laws blah blah blah.. and no Cinderella moment, I think if I lost one of my boots:

 1. I'd be devastated cause they're my favorite boots and,

2. This is Cardiff, not a fairy-tale kingdom, it would probably just be thrown in the bin!

But it was such a great night, definitely want to go to another masked party soon.. there's just something so magical, mysterious and quite sexual about it, the lack of identity, I dont know.. there's just something about it.. and I love it!

THE SUMMER PROJECT

As you may already know I'm going to be studying Fashion Design at the University of Glamorgan in September, I received a letter from them recently with my trips, equipment list and my summer project. I was actually really looking forward to a Summer project and was hoping it was to create something like a garment, but what I received did at first make me think 'Oh no, what does this mean?'.

Well I'm no longer thinking that! After reading it through properly several times and thinking about it for a while I know exactly what to do/what I'm going to do. The project brief is to create a journal/sketchbook of PRIMARY research based around my favorite 'place', the brief said it could be a location e.g. town, city, country or an event/experience e.g. festival, holiday. At first my thoughts went to London, I absolutely love it there and started planning a trip to go up there for the day to research and collect things for my journal.

But, I had a night out in Wind Street in Swansea on Wednesday with all my friends, I had an amazing night.. it was so random, so much fun and I was still smiling the day after (although I was also trying to recover from all the shenanigans that went on!). I can remember at one point sitting outside McDonalds with everyone, laughing and messing about.. when I just shouted out "I fucking love Swansea!". So the next day it hit me, I want to centre my Summer project around Swansea.

It has always been a place to escape to, a place where anything is possible and I've had some of the best experiences of my life in Swansea throughout the years. I remember sneaking up there without my parents knowing when I was 14 to meet people, all the shopping trips and lately all the nights out! I have so much to put in my journal, loads of pictures, mementos/keepsakes and I will be going there to get more in depth research. I think I've talked enough now.. so I leave this post with a picture from Wednesday night, just one of many that will be included in my journal!

JUST A SMALL TOWN BOY

So I had my interview with the University of Glamorgan (or uni glam as I say) yesterday in Cardiff. I really don't know how it went and I now have to wait a few weeks to hear back from then, so until then I'm not going to discuss the topic here. But I do want to talk about Cardiff!

It was my first time properly going there, after my interview all my friends were still waiting for theirs so I thought not to waste a golden opportunity to go have an adventure, and oh did I! I basically picked a direction to go in and went, I had no idea where I was or where I was going. It was so exiting for me, coming from such a small town and living in a little village the big city was just exhilarating! It sounds stupid but I feel like I went into the future, the shopping malls were so big and the streets were wide and clean. It was amazing, I really can't wait to go back there.. a big shopping trip up to Cardiff may be on the cards soon!
