ARCHITECTURE: CARDIFF BAY

So as part of my Summer Project I've been looking at modern/futuristic architecture and design details, the best place in Cardiff for this is definitely Cardiff Bay!

These two images are great for my project and have already inspired me, this first one is of the Wales Millennium Centre, I love this building for many reasons. The shape is quite organic but the sheer scale of it makes it so futuristic, along with the sheet metal skin and the cut-out letters on the front. From some angles it looks like a spaceship, I really like it.

The second image is the Techniquest building, a centre for children to learn all about science, been there so many times on school trips! Part of the building is a giant sphere which is made up of all these equal sided triangles, giving the sphere a more angular shape. This has really inspired me, I think I definitely want to explore and experiment with geometric shapes and very clean lines in my work.

I took a huge amount of photos but I thought I'd just post these two which are my favourites right now, can anyone else recommend a town/city with really interesting modern architecture?

JUST A SMALL TOWN BOY

So I had my interview with the University of Glamorgan (or uni glam as I say) yesterday in Cardiff. I really don't know how it went and I now have to wait a few weeks to hear back from then, so until then I'm not going to discuss the topic here. But I do want to talk about Cardiff!

It was my first time properly going there, after my interview all my friends were still waiting for theirs so I thought not to waste a golden opportunity to go have an adventure, and oh did I! I basically picked a direction to go in and went, I had no idea where I was or where I was going. It was so exiting for me, coming from such a small town and living in a little village the big city was just exhilarating! It sounds stupid but I feel like I went into the future, the shopping malls were so big and the streets were wide and clean. It was amazing, I really can't wait to go back there.. a big shopping trip up to Cardiff may be on the cards soon!

LONDON

London. Me. Wow.

So I went to London with my Foundation class this past week for two days, it was amazing. I have been to London a few times before with my school and parents but only for a quick day trip so I feel like I've never truly 'experienced' London. On this trip though I think I finally did.

The train journey from Swansea to Paddington was so much fun, I thought I'd be really bored but seeing as I was seated next to one of my best friends (fellow classmate Kelly Jenkins) the laughs didn't cease until we got off the train 3 hours later. We went straight from Paddington, on the underground to the V&A Museum. I was stunned at how big the museum was, the rooms kept on going and going each filled with the most beautiful art, sculpture, fashion ect. that I have ever seen.

My favorite exhibition of course was the fashion one, it housed dresses from through out the ages and from some of the worlds most influential and successful designers. A new acquisition to the exhibit was a dress from Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2010 collection (one of my favorite collections), it was beautiful but unfortunately I couldn't get a decent photo of it. It also featured a dress worn by Princess Diana of Wales, a gorgeous white dress and jacket encrusted with sequins and pearls.

Then after a quick rest at the 4 star Kensington Close hotel, we went to see the 30 Years of Japanese Fashion exhibition at the Barbican. It was amazing, the garments there were so awe inspiring. It was great research for my fashion design class as my next project is based on Japanese Fashion.
