BLACK JERSEY

As I'm now on my 5 month long summer holiday I couldn't just sit around doing nothing! So I've decided I'm going to work on my core skills.. pattern drafting, sewing and illustration. I want to sew as much as I can, for fun and for me, the dream is to make a whole new wardrobe of clothes for myself!

So last night this design came into my mind.. a floor length black Jersey dress with extra long sleeves. It's simple, classy and a little bit grungy. I don't work with stretch fabrics, not since A Level Textiles, it's a hard fabric to cut and sew (for me personally). So I want to tackle that and I think this is the dress I want to attempt to master working with Jersey.

I really like this illustration, I just love the black with soft pastel pinks. If you've been following me or checking my Tumblr out (link in the buttons to the right side) you will see my style has gone totally grunge these past few months! So I think this illustration fits in quite well with my new style!

SPACE TRAVELLER: PART 1

Grey viscose jersey draped neckline top. Brown patterned leather belt. Grey viscose jersey leggings. Brown patterned leather heelless boots.

Red silk hooded jumpsuit with black elastic panelling detail & front zipper. Black patent leather knee high boots.

These two illustrations are from my new mini collection 'Space Traveller'. This collection was inspired by the idea of space travel becoming a everyday thing for the human race, as seen in such films like Star Wars.

One day technology may allow us to travel to other planets/systems quickly and safely and I thought about what would one wear whilst doing this, taking into consideration I didn't want to design anything too 'costumey' and also think about the practicalities of traveling in space.

Untitled Dress

Hey everyone, I have been so busy these past few weeks! I started production on the 'House of Slater', the first piece I made was a long sleeve grey sweatshirt with inner sleeve zip detail in black. I also made an elasticated waist belt to go with it, I really love it and I think you guys will too! I have had a lot of comments and positive feedback when I wore it a few days ago. This weekend I am planning on making a t-shirt with a draped sash front, interesting, yes?

Anyway, this is the dress I am making for my exam piece in Textiles. It is made from a stretch jersey with a silver/sparkly thread running through it (you can't see how sparkly it is in these pictures). This is just the base of the garment and will be adding a waist belt and peplums inspired by Japanese Origami which I have recently taken an interest in.
